Originally spanning 2,500 acres, acquired in 1959 from Sawday-Sexton, University City was meant to be a melting pot. A place where university presidents and janitors could live side-by-side. University City is geographically divided by Rose Canyon. This natural chasm, complete with a flowing creek and railroad tracks, splits the community into two distinct sections. South of the canyon lies the older part of University City, primarily residential with single-family homes. North of the canyon, closer to UCSD, you’ll find a blend of condos, apartments, and commercial spaces. University City is part of San Diego’s “Golden Triangle”.
