The IATC continued its work until 1990. Then it transformed into the Academy of Theatre and Film. This was the only university-level institution of its kind in Romania. It gained international recognition.
Since 1990 the I L Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film has consistently evolved. It added new specializations. These included audiovisual communication multimedia sound editing puppetry and more. The curriculum expanded to offer more diverse study programs.
In 1998 the Academy became the University of Theatre and Film I L Caragiale. Finally in 2001 it achieved its current title the I L Caragiale National University of Theatre and Film.
