Amidst the vibrant energy of Batam, Universitas Putera Batam (UPB) stands as a beacon of knowledge. It’s a relatively young university, established in 2008. But its roots go deeper, tracing back to 1992. Back then, it began as a humble computer and English language institution known as Lembaga Pendidikan Putera Batam. Over the years, this institution evolved. It blossomed into Akademi Bahasa Asing (ABA) Putera Batam in 2002. Finally, it achieved university status in 2008. Universitas Putera Batam now offers a diverse range of programs across two primary faculties: the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. These faculties house nine undergraduate programs. These programs span fields like Information Systems, Informatics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, English Language, Management, Accounting, Law, Communication Science, and English Literature. UPB also offers a postgraduate program: a Master’s in Management. Interestingly, UPB graduates don’t need to take a national exam. They are treated on par with graduates from public universities, thanks to a decree from the Ministry of National Education. Universitas Putera Batam envisions itself as a leading private university in Indonesia by 2028. It focuses on technopreneurship, emphasizing independence and professionalism. The university actively engages in research relevant to the community and nation. It strives to apply knowledge and technology for public welfare and education. Universitas Putera Batam understands the importance of collaboration. It has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tribun Batam, a prominent local newspaper. This partnership allows UPB students to gain practical experience in journalism. It also leads to the publication of a campus newspaper within Tribun Batam. This connection provides valuable real-world exposure. It further strengthens UPB’s ties to the local community.
