What if I told you that the Universitaria Regional Del Caribe IAFIC, right here before us, began in a colonial house on Calle Santa Teresa? This institution, born from the legacy of the Instituto de Administración y Finanzas de Cartagena (IAFIC), has a fascinating story. The Universitaria Regional Del Caribe IAFIC officially came into existence in 2006. The Ministry of National Education approved it through Resolution No. 3614. However, its roots trace back to 1975 and the IAFIC’s founding. IAFIC aimed to fill the void in qualified personnel within Cartagena’s Mamonal Industrial Zone. Initially, it offered intermediate training programs catering to the occupational demands of the time. These programs included Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Financial Analysis, and Marketing. IAFIC quickly became a haven for high school graduates unable to secure spots at the University of Cartagena, then the sole public higher education institution in the city and department. IAFIC’s journey began in a charming colonial house on Calle Santa Teresa with 18 classrooms, a cafeteria, a faculty lounge, laboratories, and workshops. Two years later, in 1983, the growing demand prompted a move to Avenida Santander in Marbella. This expansion marked a significant milestone for IAFIC. By 1987, it settled into its current, spacious premises on Avenida Pedro de Heredia in the Pie del Cerro sector. This strategic location offered convenient access between two major avenues and proximity to the city’s historic and commercial center. The Universitaria Regional Del Caribe IAFIC remains committed to providing quality education grounded in values and principles. It strives for comprehensive professional excellence, aiming to meet both national and international demands. The university emphasizes the well-being of its staff and fosters a strong sense of community. It aims to make a positive social impact through teaching, university welfare, research, social outreach, and internationalization. The Universitaria Regional Del Caribe IAFIC aspires to become one of the Caribbean region’s leading university institutions by 2025. It envisions strengthened relationships with society and the public and private business sectors, nationally and internationally.
