Inaugurated just recently, in December 2021, this university is the first Catholic university in East Timor. It represents a dream decades in the making, a dream nurtured by the Archdiocese of Dili since the time of Bishop Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo. The Universidade Católica São João Paulo II Dili isn’t just a place of learning. It’s a symbol of resilience and hope for this young nation. The university currently has four faculties: Education, Language, and Arts; Medical Sciences; Social Sciences; and Agricultural Engineering.
