Universidad del Sinú was founded in 1974. Elías Bechara Zainúm had a vision. He wanted to satisfy the need for higher education. The university started by offering programs in law, administration, and accounting. Over time it expanded. It now includes human sciences, art, design, health sciences and engineering.

Universidad del Sinú Elías Bechara Zainúm is a private institution. It operates as a non-profit organization. The Ministry of National Education recognized it through Resolution No 4973. This was issued in December 2004.

The Universidad del Sinú Sede Santillana is located on Av. El Bosque. Its address is transv. 54 No 30 453. The main campus is in Montería Córdoba. There are also campuses in Bogotá and Cartagena. This strategic distribution allows the university to serve a broader student population.

The university has four faculties. They offer around 18 undergraduate programs. In postgraduate studies there are 22 specializations and 7 master’s degrees. One doctoral program is also available. In total there are 30 programs.
