Universal Audenried Charter High School

Opened in 2008, the Universal Audenried Charter High School stands as a beacon of education in Grays Ferry. It replaced the older Charles Y. Audenried Junior High School, breathing new life into the community. The Universal Audenried Charter High School isn’t just a building. It represents the hopes and dreams of generations of students. Originally, the School District of Philadelphia directly managed the school. In 2011, a shift occurred. The School Reform Commission granted the Universal Companies the reins. This decision sparked debate within the community. Teachers, students, and residents voiced concerns about the fairness of the decision, citing Audenried’s improving performance. They argued that older data from 2005, before the new building even existed, shouldn’t overshadow more recent progress. The Universal Audenried Charter High School serves students from several feeder schools. Universal Alcorn Charter Elementary, Marian Anderson Neighborhood Academy, Universal Vare Charter School, and Stephen Girard Elementary all send their graduates here. This creates a rich tapestry of students, each bringing unique experiences and perspectives to the halls of Audenried. In 2017-2018, the student body numbered around 608, with a student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15.59.
