It became a place where spirituality and activism intertwined. Rev Gregory Guice a former Black Panther led the congregation since 2008. He believes community involvement is vital. His activism shapes his spiritual leadership.

Argentina Glasgow made history in 1993. She became the first African American woman in a senior ministerial role. Under her leadership Detroit Unity Temple grew spiritually. She created teams for prayer visitation and spiritual care. Glasgow even served as chair of the Association of Unity Churches International.

Detroit Unity Temple celebrated its 100th anniversary in October 2024. The Children’s Church held a celebration with a DJ and face painting. A Black Tie Gala was held at the MGM Grand Hotel. Michael Beckwith and Ricky Byers Beckwith were keynote speakers.
