The United Church of God is an international association. It emerged from the Worldwide Church of God in 1995. This split occurred after changes in the original teachings. Many members wanted to keep the original beliefs. They felt these beliefs aligned with the early church.
The United Church of God began with former ministers. They met in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were concerned about the changing doctrines. The church’s first president was David Hulme. He was later removed for refusing to move the headquarters to Ohio.
The United Church of God is governed by a Council of Elders. These twelve men are elected by the General Conference of Elders. This differs from the Worldwide Church of God’s leadership. The United Church of God believes that Western Europeans descend from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. Jews descend from the ancient kingdom of Judah. This belief is not about racial superiority. It’s about interpreting Bible prophecies.
The United Church of God believes in obeying Old Testament laws. This includes the Ten Commandments. They don’t eat certain foods like pork. They observe Holy Day festivals. They keep the Sabbath on Saturday. They avoid sexual sins. They don’t follow Old Testament laws about sacrifice. They believe Christ fulfilled these laws.
The United Church of God believes people will have a chance to learn the truth after a Second Resurrection. Those who reject God will be destroyed after the Third Resurrection.
