This building houses the Staatsinstitut für Familienforschung, or ifb, Germany’s sole social science research institute dedicated entirely to the study of family. The ifb, established 28 years prior to 2021, boasts an interdisciplinary team, delving into the ever-changing landscape of family dynamics. Uni Bamberg’s Heinrichsdamm 4, a rather unassuming building, plays a crucial role in understanding the very fabric of society. While formally under the Bavarian State Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Affairs, the ifb maintains its scientific independence as an affiliated institute of Uni Bamberg. In 2021, twelve dedicated researchers and five administrative staff worked within these walls, contributing to a deeper understanding of families.
