In the 15th century, Ulugh Beg ruled Samarkand. He transformed the city into a center of knowledge. Ulugh Beg was skilled in mathematics and astronomy. He gathered the greatest minds of the time. Mathematicians and astronomers came to Samarkand. They came to work at the Ulugh Beg Observatory.
Construction of the Ulugh Beg Observatory began in the 1420s. It was completed around 1428. The Ulugh Beg Observatory became a hub for astronomical discovery.
