Unveiled in 1936, the Uhren- oder Jahreszeitenbrunnen isn’t just a pretty face. It’s a testament to time’s passage, crafted by the sculptor Georg Fürstenberg. Notice the figures on the central pillar? Each one embodies a season. The sower represents spring, the reaper summer, the vintner autumn, and the woodcutter winter. These figures, frozen in their tasks, remind us of the cyclical nature of time. It’s a theme driven home by the inscription encircling the fountain: “Use time – for it escapes – like trickling water – into the sea of eternity”.
