Did you know that this grand Georgian house, UCD Richview, was once a private estate? Built around 1790, it was home to wealthy families like the Powells. But time changed everything.
In 1885, the Masonic Boys Schools bought the property and turned it into a boarding school, a place for the sons of deceased members of the Masonic Order. Additions were made to the original house, the most notable being the extension designed by Sir Thomas Drew.
UCD acquired UCD Richview in 1974 and as you can see today, it is now home to the University College Dublin’s School of Architecture, Landscape and Civil Engineering. The gatelodge still stands on Clonskeagh Road, a silent reminder of the estate’s past.
Come closer and imagine the echoes of children playing in the grounds. Feel the weight of history in the stone walls. These buildings have a story to tell, a story of changed fortunes, education and transformation.
