A towering structure greets you. This is the UANL Campus Ciencias de la Salud. Its imposing presence speaks of dedication and healing.

This isn’t just a campus. It’s a place steeped in history. The legacy began long ago. In 1828 the first medical-surgical chair was established by Italian doctor Pascual Costanza. This marked a crucial turning point. Monterrey gained its first steps towards a formal medical education.

The official founding of the School of Medicine occurred in 1859. Doctor José Eleuterio González led the charge. He’s a legendary figure here. They call him “Gonzalitos”. He instilled a spirit of excellence that still thrives today. The school began modestly with just 15 students and six professors.

The UANL Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital are the heart of the campus. This Health Sciences Campus is unique in Nuevo Leon. It’s the only university campus solely dedicated to medicine and health sciences. The idea originated in 1927. Dr Eusebio Guajardo envisioned an Institute of Medical Sciences. His vision became reality within this sprawling campus.

The campus boasts an impressive size. It covers 291885 square meters. The main buildings are situated at the southern end. There you’ll find the University Hospital “Dr José E González” opened in 1943. The Faculty of Medicine followed in 1952. The HU Tower opened more recently in 2018. The Library and Regional Health Documentation Center building opened its doors in 1992.

But the campus encompasses more than just these buildings. Faculties of Dentistry Psychology Public Health and Nutrition and Nursing are all here. The UANL staff medical services are located on campus as well. So is the Center for Research and Development in Health Sciences. Even student sports facilities are available.

The UANL Faculty of Medicine is a powerhouse of education. It’s recognized nationally and internationally. The MCP degree program is highly competitive. Thousands of students apply every year. Only one in five is accepted. Students come from all over Mexico and even other countries such as the United States Brazil Venezuela and Chile. The programs have gained many prestigious accreditations. These include the CIEES COMAEM CONAECQ and the German ASIIN.

The University Hospital is also highly regarded. Newsweek magazine ranked it number 12 in Mexico in 2023. It holds the number 2 position in Nuevo Leon. The hospital’s excellence reflects directly on the quality of education provided at the UANL Campus Ciencias de la Salud.

This campus isn’t just about the past. It’s a vibrant center of research and innovation. It houses 297 researchers appointed by the National System of Researchers. They conduct hundreds of studies every year. Some are linked to the pharmaceutical industry. Others are original research initiatives. Still others support postgraduate studies. The campus even organizes a national congress of research and innovation in medicine every two years.

The UANL Campus Ciencias de la Salud is a testament to the power of education. It’s a place where history innovation and healing coexist. Its influence extends far beyond the campus walls. It impacts the health and well-being of countless individuals. It shapes the future of medicine in Mexico. This is a place where lives are changed. Not only the lives of those who study here. But the lives of the many it serves.
