Have you ever wondered what lies beyond the bustle of city life? Right here, in the heart of Dublin, lies a hidden treasure – Tymon Park. This expansive park, spanning over 300 acres, offers a breath of fresh air and a chance to escape the urban jungle. It’s the second largest park in Dublin, only surpassed by the renowned Phoenix Park. Founded in 1986, Tymon Park was created from various farm plots and land acquired over decades.

The park is a haven for nature enthusiasts, with a diverse landscape of woodland, lakes, and ponds. The River Poddle, a vital watercourse in Dublin’s history, flows through Tymon Park, nurturing its vibrant ecosystem. You can even find a sculpture called ‘Cliabhan,’ meaning ‘Cradle’ in Irish, by the talented sculptor Linda Brunker. It depicts a bronze baby cradled in hands formed from bronze leaves, symbolising the nurturing aspects of the PACT Woodland Project, an adoption agency collaborating with the South Dublin County Council.

While Tymon Park is known for its peaceful ambiance and outdoor activities, its past is steeped in history. The remnants of Tymon Castle, a formidable structure built between the 12th and 15th centuries, still haunt the grounds. Once a local landmark and a strategic defense point, it was demolished in 1960 due to its dilapidated state. Today, remnants of its past life remain intertwined with the park’s landscape, a constant reminder of the area’s rich history. Tymon Park serves as a testament to Dublin’s past and present, where the tranquility of nature blends with the echoes of historical events. In its serene embrace, you can rediscover the heart of Dublin, away from the city’s clamor, a place where history whispers and nature sings.
