The name Twin Peaks might suggest two prominent mountains. In reality one peak stands out more noticeably. But that doesn’t diminish the rewarding experience.
Our adventure starts at Silverset Park. You’ll find the trailhead right by the park sign, next to the bathroom facilities.
The Twin Peaks hike is roughly 2.5 miles. It involves a 500-foot climb. This provides a great workout. The trail immediately ascends, getting your heart pumping.
In the first section, be mindful of turnoffs. Stay focused on the path heading uphill. When you reach a junction with a steep road to the left, take it. At roughly 0.6 miles, the trail to the summit veers left.
As you ascend Twin Peaks, the path narrows. You’ll encounter some rocky terrain. But the panoramic reward is well worth the effort.
Once you reach the top of Twin Peaks prepare for amazing 360-degree views. Look west to see Black Mountain, the second-highest point in San Diego. To the east, Mount Woodson and Iron Mountain rise majestically.
Many hikers enjoy the solitude of Twin Peaks. It’s not uncommon to hike without seeing another soul.
The Twin Peaks trail is an out-and-back route. Head back the way you came. You can easily complete the entire hike in about an hour.
After your hike consider a short drive to Old Poway Park. There you can explore local history. Or grab a bite at Smokin’ J’s BBQ. It is the perfect post-hike treat.
To reach Twin Peaks, take the I-15 to the Camino Del Norte exit. Head east and then turn left onto Silverset St. The park and trailhead will be on your left.
