Journey back to 1183. A whisper echoes through the dense forests, “Tudendorph”. This, my friends, is the first documented mention of Tuttendorf. The name, meaning “Dudo’s Village,” connects us to a time long before paved roads and bustling cities. Here in Tuttendorf, the discovery of silver ore near Freiberg set in motion a chain of events that would shape this village for centuries. Tuttendorf, nestled on the left bank of the Freiberger Mulde, became inextricably linked to the silver mines. The village evolved into a Waldhufendorf, a type of settlement characterized by elongated farmsteads stretching back from the river. Imagine farmers working their land, while just a stone’s throw away, miners toiled underground seeking their fortune. The mining history of Tuttendorf is etched into the landscape itself. South of the village, the remnants of mine dumps bear witness to the first mining period. The mouth of the Alter und Tiefer Fürstenstolln (Old and Deep Prince’s Adit), a mine drainage tunnel dating back to 1384, stands as a silent sentinel of Tuttendorf’s mining legacy. The St. Anna Church in Tuttendorf is another treasure. Rebuilt between 1705 and 1710, its Baroque stucco ceiling features a unique blend of Christian and mining symbols, a testament to the intertwined history of faith and industry in this village. Inside, a late Gothic St. Anne sculpture adds a touch of ancient grace. Even before becoming part of Halsbrücke in 1994, Tuttendorf’s story took a turn in 1950 when it merged with the neighboring village of Conradsdorf. Though now part of a larger community, Tuttendorf retains its unique charm and historical significance. So, as you stand here, imagine the echoes of miners’ hammers and the murmur of the Freiberger Mulde. Tuttendorf, a small village with a rich history, whispers its stories to those who listen closely.
