Have you ever wondered what it was like to live in a small village before becoming part of a big city? Look at the Turro church. Its neoclassical facade and fresco decorations hide stories from the past. Imagine yourself in the 16th century, standing right before the old church, hearing the sound of village life around it. There was a tower that would have served as a source of protection for the villagers. In 1861, there were only 319 inhabitants of Turro, a quiet village. But the industrial boom of the 20th century brought new life to the area and its population grew rapidly. In the 1980s, the factories abandoned Turro and the locals moved to a more residential lifestyle. Turro is now a lively neighbourhood, one of the most densely populated suburbs in Milan. Its past is still alive, though, and you can feel it, particularly in the Turro church, a witness to the history of this neighbourhood.
