T\u01b0\u1ee3ng M\u1eb9 Nhu stands majestically on Dien Bien Phu Street. It faces the sea. The monument commemorates M\u1eb9 Nhu’s dedication. She fought for Vietnam’s freedom. The 12-meter-high statue was created by sculptor Pham Van Hang. It was unveiled in 1985. This marked the 10th anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation. The statue is made of 7000 bullet shells.

M\u1eb9 Nhu’s real name was L\u00ea Th\u1ecb D\u00e3nh. During the war against the Americans her house became a revolutionary base. She dug secret tunnels. These hid soldiers and supplies.

In 1967 a special forces unit moved into her Thanh Khe home. On December 26 1968 a traitor revealed their location. The enemy attacked. They tortured M\u1eb9 Nhu. They demanded she expose the soldiers’ hiding place. M\u1eb9 Nhu refused. She shouted a warning. An enraged enemy soldier shot her.

The special forces unit emerged. They engaged the enemy. Despite being outnumbered they fought bravely. They were supported by locals. The soldiers escaped that night. Seven heroes sacrificed themselves. They killed over 80 American soldiers. This act shocked the enemy.

After Da Nang’s liberation the city honored M\u1eb9 Nhu. They erected a statue. Pham Van Hang created it. Resources were scarce at the time. He used war materials. He fashioned the statue from bullet shells. These were collected around Da Nang.

The statue depicts a brave mother. Her face shows fortitude. She seems to be urging her children forward. T\u01b0\u1ee3ng M\u1eb9 Nhu serves as a reminder. It recalls the sacrifices made for freedom. It symbolizes Vietnamese strength.
