Tunnel Hill

Beneath the gaze of the midday sun, Tunnel Hill, also known as Chuanshan Hill, stands as a silent sentinel. It earns its name from the remarkable moon-shaped cave that pierces right through it. Imagine gazing at this hill from afar, the cave appearing like a perfect full moon suspended in the stone. This “Moon Cave” isn’t just a visual spectacle. It holds hidden wonders within its depths. Crystals shimmer, stone twigs reach out like delicate fingers, and unique stone formations resembling goose feathers adorn the cave walls. These formations are a rare sight, even compared to the famed Reed Flute Cave and Seven-Star Cave. The Li River, a vital artery of Guilin, gracefully meanders through the encompassing park, adding to the serene beauty. Tunnel Hill Park, a sprawling two-square-kilometer expanse, positions Chuanshan Hill as its centerpiece. From here, you can look across the Li River to the iconic Elephant Trunk Hill, and westward towards Turtle Hill. The positioning of Chuanshan and Turtle Hill create a unique vista, resembling two roosters poised for battle, giving rise to the local nickname, “Rooster-fighting Hills”. Further enhancing the view, Tower Hill rises before Chuanshan Hill, crowned by the historic Shou Fo Pagoda from the Ming Dynasty. Between these two hills, the Xiaodong River flows, its waters mirroring the picturesque scene above. Tunnel Hill offers more than just natural beauty.
