TÜBİTAK Başkanlık Binası

Established in 1963 by President Cemal Gürsel, the TÜBİTAK Başkanlık Binası in Ankara stands as a testament to Turkey’s commitment to science and technology. Initially envisioned as an advisory body to the Ministry of Defense, TÜBİTAK, the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, quickly evolved into a driving force behind the nation’s scientific endeavors. This building, the TÜBİTAK Başkanlık Binası, became the hub for this ambitious undertaking. Gürsel, recognizing the importance of scientific advancement for a modernizing Turkey, expanded the initial council’s scope. He established TÜBİTAK with the mandate to shape national science and technology policies. The organization’s first chairman, Cahit Arf, appointed on December 26, 1963, laid the foundation for TÜBİTAK’s future success. The TÜBİTAK Başkanlık Binası became the center of operations for a diverse range of research initiatives. Early on, TÜBİTAK focused on supporting basic and applied academic research. It publishes popular science magazines, organizes science competitions for students, and offers scholarships to encourage young people to pursue careers in science.
