“A sanctuary for the soul.” That’s how many describe Tu viện Linh Thứu. It’s nestled in Củ Chi district, a peaceful escape from the hustle of Ho Chi Minh City. The address is 307 Nguyễn Thị Nê street, in the Phú Hòa Đông subdistrict. Tu viện Linh Thứu has a rich history. It was originally a Tam Bảo built by the Cao Thị Vân family before 1975. In 2009, it was offered to the Buddhist monk, Thích Thiện Xuân. The monastery officially joined the Buddhist community on January 23, 2015. Fast forward to November 29th of the following year, a ceremony was held at Tu viện Linh Thứu. Venerable Thích Thiện Xuân was officially appointed as the resident monk. The ceremony was attended by high-ranking Buddhist officials. Representatives from the local government were also present. Born Nguyễn Văn Sửu, Thích Thiện Xuân’s journey began in 1975. He was raised in Củ Chi in a devout Buddhist family. He entered monastic life in 1995 at Linh Sơn Pagoda. He received full ordination in 2001. He completed his Buddhist studies in 2009 and is pursuing a PhD in Education in Malaysia. Since taking on the management of Tu viện Linh Thứu, Thích Thiện Xuân has shared his knowledge. He guides the Buddhist community and actively participates in charitable work. At Tu viện Linh Thứu, a special one-day retreat called “One Day of Peace” was held on December 31, 2023. Buddhists gathered to meditate and learn. They shared experiences and knowledge under the guidance of Venerable Thích Thiện Xuân. This retreat provided a chance for participants to cultivate peace.
