The Grand Buddha Hall is home to three Buddha statues. You’ll also find statues of the Eighteen Arhats there. Two bronze Vajrapāni statues stand guard at the Main Gate. They protect the monastery.

But the real showstopper is the Guan Yin statue. This 76-meter tall bronze figure is the world’s largest. It is coated in a special self-cleaning paint. The Guan Yin statue is truly awe-inspiring. She holds a wisdom mani pearl and a vase. The water from the vase is believed to cleanse the world. Her compassionate gaze sweeps over all who visit.

Beneath the Guan Yin statue lies a treasure. The Tsz Shan Monastery Buddhist Art Museum is located there. It holds an extensive collection of Buddhist artifacts. This museum is unique in Hong Kong. It is the only one dedicated to Buddhist art and relics. Also inside the monastery is a Holy Bodhi Tree. This symbolizes wisdom. It’s a branch from the original tree in Sri Lanka. A gift from the former president.

The monastery encourages various spiritual practices. You can try Zen calligraphy at the Universal Gate. Or perhaps a water offering at the Compassion Path. For the latter you fill a bowl with water and pour it into the Thousand Wishes Pond. Remember to return the bowl afterwards. There are wheelchairs available for those who need them.
