“In 1913 it all began” a student whispers to his friend while passing the main building of Tsun Jin High School. This marks the start of our journey into the heart of a Kuala Lumpur educational landmark. I am excited to share the story of Tsun Jin High School with you today. Tsun Jin High School stands as a beacon of Chinese independent education.

Let us step back in time to understand the origins. The Selangor Fui Chiu Association laid the foundation with Tsun Jin Primary School in 1913. This primary school sought to nurture young minds. As the years passed the community recognized a need for higher education rooted in Chinese culture. Thus the Tsun Jin Board of Governors established an independent Chinese high school. The high school officially opened its doors in 1955.

Tsun Jin High School faced a pivotal moment in 1962. Many local Chinese schools opted for systemic reformation. However the Tsun Jin Board of Governors firmly stood their ground. They were convinced of the independent Chinese high school’s unique mission. They resolved to continue their noble pursuit of holistic education. Various construction plans have been implemented to improve the school. Tsun Jin High School celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2015. The school held a performance on July 25 and 26 of that year. Beh Kim Chuan was the head director of the performance.

Now let’s talk facilities. The school boasts a library filled with knowledge. There are also eight badminton courts for sports enthusiasts. The air-conditioned hall seats 800 people and provides a venue for concerts and lectures. The main hall built in 2009 can accommodate 2500 people. A music room resonates with melodies from the choir society.

Clubs thrive here. Students engage in diverse activities such as Police Cadet and Editorial Club. They can also join St. John Ambulance Boy’s Scout and Girl’s Guide. The Orchestra Debate and Elocution clubs are also very popular. Notably debate and elocution are divided by three languages.

Academically Tsun Jin High School shines. The school Chinese Debate team captain Justin has won the Asian Debate Cup several times. The English Debate team has won several awards over the years. One notable victory was at the HELP University 2014 International Chinese Secondary School Debate Competition. The Tsun Jin basketball team has secured numerous awards. These include the Ruby Cup and the Selangor-Kuala Lumpur Chinese Independent High School Inter-school Tournament.

Tsun Jin High School has nurtured notable alumni. Lee Ying Ha has made her mark in politics. Tracy Lee has become a recognized actress.

Tsun Jin High School began as a vision. It has grown into an important institution. It continues to shape future generations. The school’s commitment to education shines brightly. It illuminates the path for students who walk its halls today.
