Have you ever heard a bell that never rang? Today you are standing before the Tsar Bell, one of the biggest bells in history. In 1735, the Tsar Bell was cast by the Motorin family, a famous family of Russian bell founders. It almost never happened. The Tsar Bell is the third bell made for this place. The first Tsar Bell was made in 1600 and weighed about 40 tons, but it crashed a few decades later. The second Tsar Bell weighed 130 tons and was installed next to the bell tower of Tsar Ivan the Great, but it also fell down and was damaged. This bell was made with the metal of these two previous bells, but it still suffered a terrible fate. Three days after it was cast, a fire broke out and part of the Tsar Bell cracked. The Tsar Bell weighs over 200 tons and is over 6 meters high. The bell is not used for ringing, but it is still one of the most impressive sights in Moscow.
