Established in 2016 the Vietnam Japan University stands before you. A testament to collaboration between two nations. It’s more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a story of shared dreams and ambitious goals.

The Vietnam Japan University VNU-VJU isn’t your typical university. It’s the seventh university under the Vietnam National University Hanoi. Its creation was far from spontaneous. It began with a request in 2006. The Vietnamese Minister of Education and Training asked the Japan-Vietnam Parliamentarian’s Friendship League to explore a joint training institution.

This initial request sparked a flurry of activity. In 2009 a proposal emerged at a conference of Vietnamese and Japanese university presidents. The idea a university embodying cultural and educational cooperation gained momentum. By 2010 both governments issued a joint declaration. They agreed to consider a high-quality university. This university would incorporate Japanese educational characteristics within Vietnam.

The project gained serious traction in 2013. The Vietnamese Prime Minister and the Japanese Prime Minister agreed to accelerate the university’s establishment. The following year 2014 saw the official decision to establish Vietnam Japan University under the Vietnam National University Hanoi. A crucial agreement followed in 2015. VNU and the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA signed a cooperation agreement. This agreement focused on establishing master’s programs. Finally in 2016 the Vietnam Japan University opened its doors.

The Vietnam Japan University isn’t just about educating Vietnamese students. It’s designed to be an international university. It aims to provide qualified technical graduates for both industry and the public sector. One of its key objectives is to offer international students access to Japanese higher education and the Japanese job market. This is a significant undertaking. Success in this area has been limited. The VJU is intended to address this challenge directly.

Professor Dr Furuta Motoo became the first foreign rector in 2016. He led the way. He helped shape the university’s unique identity. The Vietnam Japan University’s main campus is still under construction in Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park. However even now it is a symbol of a promising future.

The Vietnam Japan University’s mission is clear. It’s to nurture high-quality human resources. These graduates will become the next generation of leaders managers and experts. They will work in Vietnam Japan Southeast Asia and worldwide. The VJU also strives to produce research products in advanced technologies. This research will focus on sustainable development. Knowledge transfer between Vietnam and Japan is a crucial aspect. Ultimately this transfer will serve both societies.

Looking at the Vietnam Japan University today you see a university. You also see a symbol of hope. A beacon of international cooperation. It’s a place where cultures blend. A place where dreams are forged. And a place where the future is being built one student at a time. The Vietnam Japan University is a testament to the power of collaboration and the boundless potential of education.
