Before you stands True Light Apostolic Church. Its story isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s a testament to faith perseverance and unwavering devotion.
True Light Apostolic Church began in 1953. Bishop Charlie F Roberson Sr had a vision. He wanted a house of worship in Savannah Georgia. He bought two lots. Sadly illness struck. The dream seemed lost.
Yet God had other plans. Despite setbacks the True Light Church was incorporated. Services were held in a tent. Bishop Roberson despite his illness continued preaching. He often quoted Revelation 2:10 “be thou faithful until death and I will give thee a crown of life”. Membership fluctuated. Many souls were saved.
In 1974 Bishop Roberson Sr passed away. His wife Mother Maggie Roberson and a few faithful members carried on. It was a difficult time. The church even closed for a while. Then a vision. A man said “occupy until I come”. The church reopened.
Mother Roberson’s health declined. In 1982 her son Bishop Charlie F Roberson Jr took over. He was already pastoring in Philadelphia. He accepted the challenge. In 1986 Mother Roberson passed. Bishop Roberson Jr and the remaining members continued.
Under his leadership True Light thrived. In 1998 they moved to a larger building a whole city block long. It was a massive undertaking. It required faith unity and sacrifice. The church became a beacon.
In 2004 Bishop Roberson Jr faced personal loss and a new calling. His wife passed away. He became a bishop. He founded the Kingdom Legacy Alliance to unite churches. He served on the ERCCL Council of Bishops for 14 years.
In 2018 Bishop Roberson Jr retired at 85. His daughter Dr Kathleen Roberson became the new pastor. A new era began. In 2019 Bishop Roberson Jr passed peacefully.
True Light Apostolic Church stands today a legacy of faith. A testament to the power of perseverance and the enduring spirit of a community bound by shared belief. Its history is a living example of dedication and unwavering hope a true light in the world.
