Unit 4 however became the largest thermal power unit in India at the time. It boasted impressive features a compact layout. High steam parameters were also present. It even had multi-fuel firing capabilities. Most importantly it featured the nation’s first electrostatic precipitator. This was a remarkable feat of engineering for its time.

The station’s history is full of milestones. Unit 5 commissioned in 1984 became India’s first 500 MW thermal station. It remains remarkably efficient even today. Tata Power’s engineers played a crucial role in building Trombay. They didn’t just construct it. They brought revolutionary technology to India.

Trombay is more than just a power plant. It’s a testament to innovation. It houses a 99.5% efficient electrostatic precipitator. It also had the country’s first HPLP bypass system. Incredibly the unit could even operate during blackouts automatically switching to houseload.

But Trombay’s story extends beyond technological prowess. It’s the only plant in India with a multi-fuel-burning boiler. This allows it to adapt to fluctuating fuel prices. It’s also environmentally conscious. The first FGD plant in India it removes 90% of sulfur dioxide emissions. This commitment earned it many accolades. With 37.5% thermal efficiency this 930 MW station has run strongly for 40 years.

Trombay’s commitment extends beyond power. Its CSR actively supports education employability entrepreneurship and essential enablers. Initiatives like Adhikaar Anokha Dhaaga and Roshni empower communities. Over 1000 women benefited from capacity-building programs.
