Tucked away on Belvidere Street, the Tree of Life Metropolitan Baptist Church has a story to tell. It isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to faith, growth, and community. The Tree of Life Metropolitan Baptist Church began as a vision. In 1999, Pastor Eric Moore felt a calling to establish a ministry in the Detroit metropolitan area. He wasn’t alone. Elders Sid Jones and Ronald White joined him. Later, in 2003, Elder Keith Crosby became part of this leadership team. The State of Michigan officially recognized the Tree of Life Metropolitan Baptist Church in December 1999. A small group of seven adults started meeting regularly. They prayed, studied, and laid the groundwork for the church. Then, on June 4, 2000, the first service took place. Thirty-three people gathered at Lawrence Technological University’s Architecture building auditorium. The Tree of Life Metropolitan Baptist Church had taken root. For years, the church thrived at Lawrence Tech. Then, in 2016, the Tree of Life Metropolitan Baptist Church moved to its new home in Royal Oak. This relocation marked a new chapter in the church’s journey. It celebrated its 21st anniversary in June 2021. The Tree of Life Metropolitan Baptist Church, while now located in Royal Oak, continues to serve the Detroit metropolitan area. Its eight-fold philosophy reflects its deep commitment to God, education, prayer, and the community. The church’s name, taken from Jeremiah 17:7-8, speaks to its enduring spirit. Like a tree planted by the water, the Tree of Life Metropolitan Baptist Church draws strength from its deep roots and continues to bear fruit.
