“Locked?” I muttered, jiggling the handle of TRCompanion I B&B. A voice startled me. “Looking for Pieter?” It was a man, his face etched with the Rwandan sun. He pointed down the street. “TR Companion moved down to Kamatamu Gataba, Number 23 a few years back. Pieter’s still running the show though, still renting out bikes and camping gear, and still organizing tours to Rwanda, Burundi, and Uganda. TRCompanion I B&B, as it was known here, is no longer a bed and breakfast. It’s been years since it offered lodging. Pieter expanded his business. He focuses now on adventure tourism. He kept the TR Companion name, a nod to his early days here. He started small in 2013, just a handful of employees. TR Companion has been around for over a decade now, growing steadily. If you’re looking for a place to stay, though, there are plenty of other options around here. But for adventure, that’s TR Companion down the road.”
