A three-day trek across La Gomera’s breathtaking landscapes. That’s the Travesía. Imagine yourself standing at the starting point in Agulo.
The Travesía is more than just a hike. It’s a journey through time. A walk through La Gomera’s heart. This linear trek spans 54 kilometers. It’s a challenging but rewarding adventure. It connects charming villages like Agulo Vallehermoso Chipude and San Sebastian de La Gomera. You’ll experience the magic of La Gomera’s nature. You will traverse parts of Garajonay National Park. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here the ancient laurel forest thrives. A relic from the last ice ages. It’s a unique ecosystem found only in Macaronesia.
The first stage follows the PR-LG5 and GR132 trails. It ascends through the challenging Pasos de Agulo. Expect some uncertainty. The markings aren’t always clear. Stages two and three are simpler. They follow the well-marked GR131. This is the Camino Natural Cumbres de La Gomera. It’s recently been upgraded. The route is part of a wider network spanning the Canary Islands.
Choosing your direction matters. The GR131 is usually done in reverse. Our route begins in Agulo ending in San Sebastian. This is better. The original route’s first leg is long and demanding. Our reverse route is less strenuous. The overall ascent is 2865 meters. The descent is 3118 meters.
The Travesía isn’t just about physical endurance. It’s about immersion. It’s about connecting with La Gomera’s culture. You’ll savor the local gastronomy. You’ll engage with the warm and welcoming people. You’ll feel the island’s spirit. You’ll create memories that will last a lifetime. This is the Travesía. A true Gomera experience.
