Trap music originated in the Southern United States in the 1990s. It gained mainstream popularity in the 2010s. The name “trap house” refers to a place used to sell drugs. Lyrical content often focuses on drug use and urban violence. Pioneers include T.I., Jeezy, and Gucci Mane.
T.I., one of trap music’s forefathers, founded the Trap Music Museum. His recreated closet showcases clothes, assault rifles, and his 2008 Grammy. The Grammy helped catapult him and trap music to international acclaim.
Visitors often wait in a long line to enter the Trap Music Museum through a recreated corner store. These stores played a central role in poverty-stricken neighborhoods. They were distribution sites for drug dealers. They became the epicenter for trap culture.

Underage visitors are welcome with an adult guardian before 8 pm. The museum maintains an 18-and-up visitor policy after 8 pm.
