The Transfiguration Baptist Church stands tall on Fairmount Avenue. It’s a pillar of faith in the Mantua neighborhood for over six decades. This church is not just a place of worship but also a place of community. It was founded in 1959 by nine people, who met in the living room of Reverend Prentice H. Smith. The first worship service was held at the Jehovah Jireh Baptist Church before moving to the A.V. Barkley Memorial Chapel. On July 24, 1959, the Transfiguration Baptist Church was officially recognized and set apart by the New Hope Association. The Church was incorporated in 1964 after they bought a lot on the corner of 38th and Fairmount Streets. Reverend Prentice H. Smith served as the founder and pastor for over 40 years. The church has seen several pastors come and go, including Reverend Scott Dorsey, Reverend Antonio Ayres, and Reverend Dr. Charles L. McNeil, Sr. They all contributed to the church’s success and growth. Today, Reverend Frederick Scott, Jr. serves as Senior Pastor and is dedicated to reaching lost souls. He is the author of the inspirational book “Witnessing Without Worry” and the developer of the mobile application “iGospelShare.” The Transfiguration Baptist Church is a place where you can find fellowship, love, and spiritual growth.
