“Almost 120,000 people call this place home.” That’s right we’re standing in Trảng Dài. It is a ward in Biên Hòa city. Biên Hòa is in Đồng Nai province. This vibrant area of Vietnam has a rich history.
Trảng Dài covers roughly 14.4 square kilometers. It is located outside the city center. It lies about six kilometers east.
In 2024, the population was recorded at an impressive 117,853 residents. This results in a dense population. It has about 8,150 people per square kilometer.
Let’s take a quick look around Trảng Dài. To the east, you’ll find Tân Hòa ward. To the southeast are Hố Nai and Tân Biên wards. Tân Phong ward lies to the west. Tân Hiệp ward is to the south. Thanh Phú and Thiện Tân communes border it to the north. These communes are part of Vĩnh Cửu district.
Trảng Dài has been divided into smaller units. These are called khu phố. There are eleven of these khu phố within Trảng Dài. These include 1, 2, 2A, 3 and 3A. Also included are 4, 4A, 4B, 4C, 5 and 5A.
Back in 1867, this area was different. Trảng Dài was part of Phước Chánh district. This was under Phước Long district. It fell within Biên Hòa province. By 1881, things had shifted again. The area became part of Phước Vĩnh Thượng tổng. It was in the Biên Hòa sub-region. Later, it was part of Biên Hòa province.
During the Republic of Vietnam era, this area had another identity. It belonged to Đức Tu district. It was still part of Biên Hòa province.
After 1975, the area was part of Tân Phong commune. In 1994, Trảng Dài ward was formed. It was created from parts of Tân Phong. Initially, the ward was divided into five khu phố. These were numbered 1 through 5.
In late 2016, there were administrative changes. Some residents of khu phố 5 joined khu phố 1. Khu phố 2A was created. It was formed from part of khu phố 2. Also, khu phố 3A was established. It was formed from part of khu phố 3. Additional changes created khu phố 4A, 4B and 4C. These were carved out of khu phố 4. Lastly, khu phố 5A was formed. It combined parts of khu phố 4 and khu phố 5.
Trảng Dài has a large population. Many residents migrated from northern and central regions. This turned forested areas into bustling residential zones. Today, it is known for complex security issues. Unauthorized construction is widespread. This is due to the constant influx of new residents.
