High above the Olympic Green stands Beijing Olympic Tower. Its five distinct towers pierce the sky. This isn’t just any tower. It’s a modern marvel a testament to Beijing’s dynamism.
Construction began in 2011. It opened on August 8 2015. Three years after the 2008 Summer Olympics. The tower is purely for observation. No offices or apartments reside within.
The design is breathtaking. The five circular towers echo the Olympic rings. Architects Cui Kai Li Cundong and Zhao Wenbin created the design. They drew inspiration from blades of grass. Some have compared it to five huge nails. A Shenzhen architect even claimed plagiarism. He said his earlier design was copied.
The tower sits on a vast 7.5-hectare plot. It boasts stunning views. From the top you can see the entire Olympic Green. The Forbidden City is visible too. Other central Beijing sights are also in view. Reaching a height of 258 meters. The tower holds the title of the second tallest in the city. It’s also the fourth tallest structure overall.
Two elevators whisk visitors to the top. The main tower is surrounded by four smaller ones. These reach different heights. The lowest is 186 meters tall. Diagonal members connect the smaller towers to the main structure. All the towers widen at their tops. This provides spacious observation platforms. The lesser tower tops spiral up to the main one.
The Beijing Olympic Tower. More than just a tower it is a symbol. A symbol of Beijing’s ambition and its place in the modern world. It stands as a reminder of the Olympic spirit and the city’s enduring legacy. It’s a breathtaking sight a modern masterpiece against the Beijing sky. A truly memorable landmark.
