Imagine Córdoba’s skyline in the early 1980s. The Torre Ángela emerged. It was a bold statement. It reached for the sky.

The Torre Ángela stands tall. It is on 27 de Abril 370. This iconic building is more than just steel and glass. It is a symbol of Córdoba. For over 25 years, it was the city’s tallest building. Its construction finished in 1984.

Manuel Barrado was a Spanish businessman. He had a vision. Hugo Taboada was an ex-mayor and architect. Together, they brought the Torre Ángela to life. Barrado dedicated the tower to his wife Ángela Luque. She was the daughter of El Tío’s founder.

The Torre Ángela’s design is striking. Rafael A. Mansilla was the architect. He used metal formwork. This was a new construction technique then. The tower has 30 floors. It rises 110 meters high.

Originally, the Torre Ángela had a helipad. It sat on its roof. Now, antennas occupy the space. They ensure clear communication signals.

The Torre Ángela houses 120 apartments. Some are homes. Others are offices. About 400 people live and work here.

From many points in the city, the Torre Ángela is visible. You can spot it from Plaza San Martín. It stands out from the Costanera. It is even noticeable from the paseo de la Intendencia.

The Torre Ángela remained Córdoba’s tallest building. This lasted until 2012. The Torres Capitalinas then surpassed it.

The Torre Ángela has faced criticism. Some say its modern style clashes. It does not blend well with the colonial architecture. Others see it as a landmark. It is a testament to Córdoba’s progress.

In Cordoba’s popular culture, the Torre Ángela is captured in art. It features in paintings and photographs. The band Química Abreu even wrote a song about it.

A fire broke out on the 28th floor in one apartment. Firefighters quickly controlled it. Luckily, everyone was safe.

Today, the Torre Ángela continues to be a visual reference. Its narrow southern face is unique. Its glass sides catch the light. It remains a distinctive part of Córdoba.
