Ever wondered about the story behind that striking tower? I am talking about the Torre Ámbar. It stands tall in the Isla Chamartín area of Madrid. Today we will uncover its past.

The Torre Ámbar is more than just a building. It is a testament to Madrid’s ever-evolving real estate landscape. Its story involves property booms, economic shifts and savvy investment strategies.

Let’s rewind to the early 2000s. Spain was experiencing a property boom. The Torre Ámbar was conceived as a residential building intended for sale. Construction finished. Its first homes were ready in 2009.

Then the economic cycle changed. The initial plan to sell the apartments became unviable. In 2014, the decision was made to offer the units for rent. This pivot marked a significant turning point for the Torre Ámbar.

Enter Inveriplus. This group specializes in transforming what they call toxic assets into liquid ones. Inveriplus acquired the Torre Ámbar’s homes during the economic crisis. They bought them from merchants of the Proinlasa real estate group. Inveriplus successfully leased out the entire building.

Inveriplus decided to list on the Mercado Alternativo Bursátil MAB in 2017. This is a market for growing companies. As part of this move, Inveriplus created a Socimi. Socimi is a Spanish REIT real estate investment trust.

Óscar Bellette was the Executive Director of Inveriplus. He mentioned that negotiations were underway for the Socimi to purchase two residential properties in Madrid. One of these was the iconic Torre Ámbar. Inveriplus already owned 50% of the homes in the building. They had sold the rest. They were in talks with creditor banks to cancel the debt.

The story of Torre Ámbar takes another turn in July 2018. Tauro Real Estate bought the tower. Tauro Real Estate was under the mandate of Globe Invest. Globe Invest is an Israeli company owned by Teddy Sagi. He is the owner of Camden Market in London.

Tauro Real Estate acquired the rights to purchase the residential block from Inveriplus. The tower included 64 prime homes. They were very close to Paseo de la Castellana. The transaction amount was not revealed.

According to sources close to the deal, the sale was signed at market price. The returns that the property could generate were of much greater interest. It was more than just the purchase opportunity.

The Torre Ámbar offers luxury apartments. These include one and two bedroom homes. It also has several studios. The private residential area features security gates and a swimming pool. There are garages, storerooms, a padel court and private green spaces.

Despite its success, the Torre Ámbar faced a challenge. On August 30, 2020, a fire engulfed the upper fourth of the newly built tower. Fortunately, the fire service responded quickly.

Today the Torre Ámbar stands as a prominent feature. It is a testament to resilience. It reflects the capacity to adapt to changing economic conditions. It shows the strategic vision of key players in the real estate market. So, next time you pass by, remember this story. The Torre Ámbar is a Madrid landmark. It embodies the dynamic spirit of the city.
