Tomisato’s story begins long ago, during the Edo period. Back then, this area wasn’t a bustling city. It was a vast expanse of ranches, where the Tokugawa Shogunate raised their powerful steeds. After the Meiji Restoration, everything changed. Tomisato Village was officially born on April 1, 1889. The planned construction of Narita International Airport sparked fierce resistance, known as the Sanrizuka Struggle. This struggle shaped Tomisato’s identity, marking it as a place of resilience and community spirit. The airport, despite the controversy, became a catalyst for Tomisato’s growth. The once quiet village transformed into a town in 1985 and finally, a city in 2002. Tomisato still retains its agricultural heart.
