Before you stands the Toluca Lake United Methodist Church. For decades it served as a cornerstone of the neighborhood. But by the 2000s declining congregation forced its closure in 2014. Three years later a gift breathed new life into the building. The Hollywood United Methodist Church adopted it as a second campus.
Pastor Mark Stephenson led the charge. In September 2017 the first service of Harmony Toluca Lake was held. From a building needing significant TLC they built a thriving congregation. They hosted community events like pancake breakfasts for the fire department. They supported the annual Los Angeles County Homeless Count. They even embraced local traditions like Halloween and Christmas celebrations.
The pandemic tested their faith. Suddenly their momentum halted. Worship services moved online. Yet they adapted. They created a children’s ministry. They enhanced online worship. This actually expanded their reach to viewers in Europe and South America.
This wasn’t just a church surviving. This was a church evolving. They learned to flatten the curve of fear with faith worry with peace despair with hope. Today Harmony Toluca Lake thrives. They continue to grow. They remain committed to serving the community.
