Perhaps you’ve heard whispers of a future powered by something invisible. That future is closer than you think, and we’re standing right in front of a place that’s showing the way: the Tokyo Suiso-miru.

The Tokyo Suiso-miru isn’t just a museum. It is an information center opened by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2016. Its goal is to raise awareness about hydrogen energy and what it means for our future society. Think of it as a window into a cleaner, greener world.

Inside the Tokyo Suiso-miru, things get really interesting. The first floor is designed with colorful illustrations. These illustrations show how hydrogen is made, stored, and used. One interactive display even lets you create hydrogen. Turn a wheel quickly and see pure hydrogen form in a water-filled cylinder. You can see the bubbles appear.

But the Tokyo Suiso-miru doesn’t just show you the science. It lets you imagine living in a hydrogen-based Tokyo. You can have your photo taken. Then select a profession, choose a purpose, and watch your avatar live its day on an interactive wall map. You even get a printed residence card.

Upstairs, you will find a life-size model of a hydrogen dispenser. Next to it is the side of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. You can even pretend to fill up the car’s tank.

Outside the Tokyo Suiso-miru, you can see the future in action. There is a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle from Toyota called MIRAI. You can see the water emitted when the car generates electricity. One of the best things about these cars is they can supply power during a disaster. The fuel cell can create enough electricity for a family for four to five days.

The city already has hydrogen stations. The goal is to increase that number even more in the coming years. Hydrogen fuel cell buses are already in service. More are planned for the future.

As you leave the Tokyo Suiso-miru, think about what you have seen. Hydrogen power is not just a dream. It is a real possibility for a cleaner, more sustainable future. Maybe some of you will be the ones to make it happen.
