Could a place named Todville hold a dark secret? Todville, a seemingly unassuming hamlet near Seabrook, Texas, is more than meets the eye. It was once home to a lavish mansion, a place of luxury and extravagance. This mansion, however, harbored a sinister history, a story of captivity and murder that shocked the community. The mansion’s owner, Bill List, was a wealthy businessman. He built the mansion near the intersection of Todville Road and East Meyer Road. The three-story brick structure, with its wrought iron bars on every window, resembled a prison. And indeed, it was a prison for the young men List lured from Houston’s streets. He offered them shelter, drugs, and a life of luxury, but at the cost of their freedom. Todville residents rarely saw anyone entering or leaving the mansion. Its imposing walls and secluded location kept its secrets hidden. The truth, however, eventually came to light. A group of the captive men, desperate for freedom, murdered List. They ransacked the mansion and fled, but were later apprehended. The List Mansion then stood empty for years. Its dark history made it undesirable, despite its prime location in Todville. Caretakers maintained the property, and a rock and roll band briefly rented it. But the mansion’s sinister past lingered. Finally, a land developer purchased the property. The mansion was demolished, replaced by stucco condos. Todville’s landscape changed. But the memory of the mansion, the House on Todville Road, and its tragic story remains. It serves as a chilling reminder of the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of even the most idyllic locations.
