Here we stand before Tioga United Methodist Church at 3259 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. This church has a fascinating history. Tioga United Methodist Church was founded in 1877. It originally stood on Venango Street between 18th and 19th Streets. In 1895, the church moved to a new location at 18th and Tioga Streets. The church’s records, including trustees’ minutes, membership directories, and even some worship bulletins, are preserved at the Historical Society of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church. These records tell the story of Tioga United Methodist Church and its congregation. They offer a glimpse into the lives of those who worshipped here. The church was part of the Delaware Conference from 1960 to 1965. Later, in 1985, Tioga United Methodist Church merged with Gethsemane United Methodist Church at Broad and Westmoreland Streets.
