Beneath the benevolent gaze of the Quan Am statue, Tịnh Xá Ngọc Bình stands as a testament to faith and perseverance. Tịnh Xá Ngọc Bình isn’t just a temple. It’s a living story, etched in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City’s District 2. The tale begins not within these serene walls, but in Dĩ An, Bình Dương Province, back in 1958. A nun, Thích Nữ Ngôn Liên, under the guidance of her mentor at Tổ sư Minh Đăng Quang pagoda, embarked on a spiritual journey. She envisioned a place of peace, a sanctuary for meditation and study. This vision took root as Tịnh Xá Ngọc An.
By 1960, the seeds of this dream blossomed further. A generous family, the Đoàn thị Tuấn, donated a significant plot of land – 5,000 square meters. This marked the rebirth of Tịnh Xá Ngọc An as Tịnh Xá Ngọc Bình. Construction began, fueled by the dedication of nuns, disciples, and the local community. It was a labor of love, transforming a vision into reality. The nun, true to her calling, also fostered a growing spiritual community. She guided numerous individuals towards monastic life.
Tịnh Xá Ngọc Bình continued to flourish, even amidst the tumultuous backdrop of the late 1960s. In 1967, management of the temple passed to Ni sư Trang Liên. She continued the tradition of spiritual guidance and oversaw further developments. After Ni sư Trang Liên’s passing in 1976, Ni sư Thông Liên and Ni sư Thuận Liên took the helm. Under their stewardship, Tịnh Xá Ngọc Bình expanded. A magnificent Quan Am statue was erected. New facilities for daily life and spiritual practice were added.
Over four decades later, Tịnh Xá Ngọc Bình has become a cherished spiritual haven. It offers solace and serenity to those seeking respite from the bustling city. The temple is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a beacon of hope, a testament to the enduring power of faith, and a peaceful sanctuary within a vibrant metropolis. It’s a story woven into the very fabric of Ho Chi Minh City, and a place where the echoes of devotion continue to resonate.
