You’ve arrived at Tinh Xa Trung Tam, a magnificent Buddhist temple in Ho Chi Minh City. The temple’s history is as rich and complex as the intricate carvings that adorn its walls.
Tinh Xa Trung Tam is more than just a place of worship. It’s the spiritual heart of Vietnamese Buddhism, a branch of the religion that emphasizes walking barefoot and begging for alms. This tradition, known as “khat si”, was founded by a man called Thich Minh Dang Quang in 1944. Though he disappeared in 1954, his followers continued to spread his teachings and eventually built Tinh Xa Trung Tam.
The temple was constructed over a decade, starting in 1965. The temple’s architecture is designed to reflect the Buddha’s teachings. The main ceremonial hall houses a magnificent statue of Gautama Buddha which is enclosed in a glass case. One of the temple’s focal points is a two-story octagonal tower named the Buddha Gem Tower, built in 1998. This tower is a symbol of wisdom.
The temple is also home to a collection of relics and paintings from the life of Buddha. The temple is a vibrant place, open to the public and visitors. It also has a bookstore, medical clinic, and offers meditation retreats. There’s much to see and experience here, and the peaceful atmosphere of the temple is sure to make a lasting impression on you.
