The Timur Shah Mausoleum is more than just a tomb; it’s a testament to a pivotal era in Afghan history. Timur Shah Durrani, the son of Ahmad Shah Durrani, rests here, a man who succeeded his father, uniting Afghanistan under his rule in the late 18th century.
Here, on the banks of the Kabul River, in a garden filled with mulberry trees, the tomb was erected in 1817. It was his son, Zaman Shah, who commissioned this grand mausoleum, a fitting tribute to his father’s legacy. The mausoleum itself is a marvel of architectural design, an octagonal structure with two intersecting cross-axes, organized on six levels. The garden, which had been encroached upon by informal traders, has been restored, complete with its mulberry trees.
