What comes to mind when you think of tigers and cubs? Majestic creatures roaming wild landscapes? Here at the Tiger and Cubs monument, the image takes on a different meaning. This monument embodies the spirit of the Tiger Cubs, a BSA program designed for first-grade boys. Tiger and Cubs isn’t about wild animals. It’s about fostering a sense of adventure and discovery in young boys. The program operates on two levels. First, the Tiger Cub and an adult partner engage in activities at home. This family-centered approach strengthens bonds and creates shared experiences. Second, they join other Tiger Cubs and partners twice a month in a den setting. One meeting focuses on a “big idea,” a theme that guides their activities. Each den meeting is hosted by a different Tiger Cub and adult partner team, fostering a sense of shared responsibility. The Tiger Cubs program follows the school year. Boys participate until they finish first grade, then they graduate to a Cub Scout den. This transition allows them to participate in Cub Scout summer activities, like day camp. Here at this monument, we celebrate the spirit of the Tiger and Cubs program. It’s a reminder of the importance of early learning, family involvement, and the thrill of discovery.
