Tucked away in northeast Houston, Tidwell Park has a story to tell. Tidwell Park isn’t just a greenspace. It’s a vital part of the Halls Bayou Greenway project. This project, spearheaded by the Houston Parks Board, is breathing new life into the 17-mile Halls Bayou. The greenway connects communities to parks and nature along the bayou, including Tidwell Park. Imagine a boardwalk winding over wetlands, a pathway through a lush palmetto forest. This is the reality at the Brock Park entrance to Halls Bayou Greenway. From Brock Park, the greenway extends to Banting Street. Another section of the greenway stretches west from Banting Street three miles to Tidwell Road, enriching Tidwell Park’s accessibility. Keep an eye out for the new Talton Street Hike and Bike Bridge along this route. Tidwell Park is more than just trails and trees. It’s a haven for local wildlife. Look closely, and you might see turtles basking in the sun, toads hopping through the undergrowth, or herons gracefully wading in the water. You might also spot catfish swimming in the bayou, or even bats flitting through the twilight sky. Tidwell Park and the Halls Bayou Greenway offer a true escape into nature. Future plans for the greenway include connecting Tidwell to Wayside and extending from Wayside to Bretshire/Hirsh to Jensen. These developments promise to further enhance Tidwell Park’s place in the green heart of Houston.
