Built in 1929 the Thuringian Ministry for the Environment Energy Nature Conservation and Forestry stands before you. It’s a magnificent building a testament to the Neoklassist architectural style. Initially separate ministries for agriculture forestry and environment and regional planning existed. They were combined in 1994. The name shifted over the years. It incorporated and then shed responsibilities for agriculture and forestry. In 2024 it finally settled on its current name the Thuringian Ministry for the Environment Energy Nature Conservation and Forestry. The Ministry’s original purpose was much different. The building was initially constructed to house the Erfurt’s main post office and the Upper Postal Directorate. This was necessary due to Thuringia’s re-establishment in 1990.
