Thüringen’s digital future? It’s being built right here at the Thüringer Ministerium für Digitales und Infrastruktur. This ministry is one of the Free State of Thuringia’s nine ministries. It plays a crucial role in shaping the region.
The Thüringer Ministerium für Digitales und Infrastruktur is located on Werner-Seelenbinder-Straße 8. You will find it on the southern edge of Erfurt. Most other ministries are nearby. Steffen Schütz heads the ministry. Tobias J. Knoblich supports him as State Secretary.
Interestingly, the Thüringer Ministerium für Digitales und Infrastruktur is the youngest ministry in Thuringia. It was founded in 2004. The ministry emerged from the former Thüringer Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Technologie. Specifically, it took over the areas of construction, transport, and spatial planning. It was initially named Thüringer Ministerium für Bau, Landesentwicklung und Verkehr.
The Thüringer Ministerium für Digitales und Infrastruktur is organized into five departments. These departments cover a range of responsibilities. Department 1 is the central department. Department 2 focuses on urban and housing construction plus state construction. Department 4 deals with transport and road construction, land management and geoinformation. Department 5 handles strategic state development, demography, and forestry.
Several subordinate authorities also fall under the ministry’s purview. The forestry administration has been part of ThüringenForst since January 1, 2012. ThüringenForst is an independent public institution.
In early 2019, the Nahverkehrsservicegesellschaft Thüringen mbH was dissolved. Its responsibilities were integrated into the Thüringer Landesamt für Bau und Verkehr. The state government expects this change to generate financial savings.
So, the next time you benefit from a new road. Or perhaps a faster internet connection. Remember the Thüringer Ministerium für Digitales und Infrastruktur. It is working behind the scenes. It shapes Thuringia’s infrastructure and digital landscape for us all.
