Towering above the Jamison Valley stand the Three Sisters. These sandstone giants are more than just rocks. They are the heart of an ancient Aboriginal legend a testament to time and nature’s power.

Formed around 200 million years ago during the Triassic period the Three Sisters rose from the ocean floor. Layers of sediment built up. Volcanic eruptions pushed through creating these iconic peaks. Wind rain and time sculpted their distinctive shapes. We see them today as Meehni Wimlah and Gunnedoo. Each sister stands tall at 922 918 and 906 meters respectively. They are a sight to behold.

The story of the Three Sisters is a powerful one. According to Aboriginal legend three sisters of the Katoomba tribe fell in love with three brothers from the rival Nepean tribe. Tribal law forbade this union. A war was about to erupt. To protect the sisters a witchdoctor turned them to stone. He planned to change them back after the battle ended. Sadly he was killed. The sisters remained stone forever. Their story is a reminder of love loss and conflict.

Millions of visitors come each year. Many ascend the Giant Stairway. This impressive staircase has over 800 steps. It offers breathtaking views. Others prefer the scenic railway a journey down into the valley. Both offer unique perspectives of these magnificent rock formations.

Eventually erosion will claim the Three Sisters. They will disappear. But for now they stand. Symbols of a rich history a compelling legend and the raw beauty of nature. Their legacy will live on.
